You Could Always Hire Me To Help You With That

Confession: I’m in the process of doing a total revamp of my professional life, and I’ve gotten to the point where I’m moving out of the daydream stage and into the making it a reality stage.

Oh my God, I have been so freaking out.

I’ve been sitting on this information for a little while, but truth be told… I don’t really have a good reason why other than to float this out there is a Big and Scary Thing.

I’m going to be shifting my focus away from doing front end development and move towards doing content strategy and tech consulting for bloggers, solopreneurs, start-ups, bands, artists, web developers, so on and so forth…

I know, you’re probably sitting there at your computer screen thinking to yourself, “Umm… Nikkiana? What does that even mean?”

In more human yet abstract terms, my job is to help you learn how to make yourself and/or your business be awesome on the Internet.

Here are some examples of scenarios that you might possibly find yourself in where I could be of assistance to you….

You own a small business selling soap and you have a blog to promote your business, but you’re finding yourself struggling to find things to blog about, especially since you heard that you need to blog regularly to keep eyes coming to your site and you keep hearing that you should be using Twitter from what seems like everywhere but you have no idea how to start. I can help you come up with an action plan for what you could be blogging about, help you identify what your ideal blogging schedule is and help get you off and running with Twitter.

You’re a small web development firm. You know that you could be attracting customers by posting about the problems that you’re running into and solving on a daily basis on your blog, but you can’t seem to motivate your developers to write about the things that they’ve been working on… and when you do manage to get them to write a blog post, it sucks! I can edit or even write your blog posts for you.

You’re a blogger who feels like they’ve outgrown what Blogger has to offer you and would love to migrate to WordPress, but you don’t know anything about tech and don’t know what to look for when hiring someone to migrate your site. I can help you hire somebody technically skilled and trustworthy.

You really think you could be the next online Martha Stewart but the only thing you’ve figured out how to do is use Pinterest to pin things you like, and you’d like to know more about how to break into this whole blogging thing. I can help you!

You’re a band who really wants to get their music out there on the Internet, but the only thing you’ve figured out how to do is set up your Facebook page. I can help you come up with a comprehensive social media strategy to help get you noticed, AND help get your fans involved.

You’re a web development company and your client just asked for detailed documentation of how to use the site that you just built for them, but everyone on your team is balking at the idea of being the person who has to sit down and write it. I can totally handle that for you.

You’re looking for a new look for your website, but you have no idea who to hire or what exactly you’re paying for. Let me explain it and help you find somebody who fits your needs.

Seriously… I could go on for hours about hypothetical situations where I could help lead you to the solutions to all of your technical and content issues, but you’re smart… You get the idea.

I was going to wait to tell you all of this until I got a shiny new website up, but then I realized something… There’s no point in waiting to announce what I’m planning on doing with my life until that website is up. There was no reason why I should be sitting pretending like there’s nothing going on behind the scenes when there totally is. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen by me telling you all of this? Someone might hire me? Sheesh. That’s the intention, right?

So, one of these days… There’s going to be an announcement about a shiny new website for my business. It’s going to have a blog where I write about things that have to do with building and maintaining websites, creating content, blogging tips, and all sorts of Internet things. Be on the lookout for that!

Until then, my dear readers… I have a couple of favors to ask of you.

One, I’m looking for blog topic ideas for my new blog. Are there any pressing questions that you have about blogging, blogging platforms, Twitter, Facebook, or any other random bloggy social media type thing… I’d love to answer your questions. Shoot them at me.

Two, if you happen to be a web designer or developer, I’d love to talk to you about what you do. I suspect that it’s entirely possible that I might end up finding work to send your way.

Three, if you happen to know anybody who might benefit from my services… Don’t hesitant to introduce us.

Four, there isn’t a four. I just wanted to have an even number of points asking for help.

So anyway, that’s the incredibly long drawn out explanation of what I’m planning on doing with my life. If you made it to the end, kudos to you.

  1. *ears perk up* did you mention web design/development people?
    :)

also, i’ll keep an eye out for any clients to send your way as well. i know that you know your stuff and aren’t just one of those “digital douchebags” that blow smoke up certain human cavities..

so a giant “break a digital leg” is in store! although i’m sure you won’t need to rely on luck. :)

  2. Hooray! I’m glad you’re making your dream a reality!

That being said, I wouldn’t mind if you threw some dev clients my way. I’m in the process of trying to take on more freelance work on the side; I’m terrified but I need to just bite the bullet and do it, much like you are doing with your career!

  4. Okay! This is awesome! I have one I’ll throw at ya. My mom has a business- she sews purses, ereader cases, etc. Girl accessories, if you will. She’s been frequenting craft fairs for years and has done quite well. I keep telling her to get online but frankly- neither of us has any idea what the best way to do that is. Etsy? A blog? It all seems overwhelming. Someone like you would come in handy in this realm. I think your plan is great and I think you will do very well with it!
