Operation Move Complete!

Well, almost.  I still have to finish cleaning the apartment and pack up the cleaning supplies, but as of today… all of the furniture is out of my old apartment and into the new!

Part one of my move, was well documented by the Blank Canvas Tour and because apparently they just seemed to know that today was the day I’d be gloating about my move being complete, they uploaded the video of my moving day (in which I make an appearance).  Check it out:

Don’t forget to head over to their blog to watch the third day of their trip in NYC, too!

Part two of my move occurred today thanks to Greenbaum Expert Moving. I asked the Twitterverse to send me divine intervention to find a moving company and I ended up getting suggested these guys.  I was impressed right out the gate…. The time  it took between when I hit the submit button on their quote from on their website last Friday to when I got a response from them was FIVE FUCKING MINUTES! And it was a whole paragraph! With things spelled correctly! They didn’t disappoint on moving day either.  They were super communicative all day. They even offered to do my move earlier than expected (although, I missed that call because I was sound asleep and my phone was on vibrate…. after last night’s wedding, I was sort of recovering from a well spirited evening, if you know what I mean). When they were running behind a little bit because of traffic, they called and let me know where they were and that they were on their way. They were fast and got everything done within the 2 hour minimum that I was required to hire them for AND they were good looking. ;)

Grand total for two hours with three men? $300. Not too shabby.

And they have this funny Q&A advertisement. I should have tried to fall asleep in the bed…. Apparently my move would have been free if I woke up.

If you’re moving in NYC, yup. Totally recommend Greenbaum Expert Moving.

You Can Do Anything And It’ll Be a Good Time

I don’t know whether you knew this or not, but I certainly didn’t it and now I feel like a complete moron but if you don’t have a credit card it’s really hard to rent a car… and if you don’t have a credit card you’d better damn well have a credit history or else you’re not going to be renting a car.

This is why I’m writing a blog entry right now instead of being out in the woods without the Internet.

My entire weekend’s plans got derailed by the fact that I’m 28 years old and never managed to get around to things like having loans and credit cards and stuff. (I had a car loan once, that I paid off… but I guess that doesn’t really count)…. So yeah, I might be a little weird for that… and well, I didn’t anticipate that being an issue because apparently it’s cool to rent a box truck without a credit check but a passenger car is a different story.

My boyfriend is currently four hours away doing sound at a small music festival called Cabinfest…  which is where my friend Anna and I were supposed to be going.

In years past, this sort of last minute change of plans might have leveled me…  I might have decided, “Fuck it. I’m going to sit around home and be miserable and self-loathing because I can’t even rent a car,” and spent the weekend in my unhappy place. But no… after lunch in a Greek diner and a thirty block walk with Anna yesterday, I just went home and sulked for thirty minutes and took a nap before heading back to rejoin her and our bro, Jonathan for drinks in Williamsburg.

After all, there are far worse places to be stuck in that New York City…. no matter what, you can always find something to do here.

To be honest, I feel like it was for the best.  As much as I would have liked to be there this weekend, there was a small part of me that wasn’t terribly enthralled with going out of town this weekend. There was a part of me that was wishing I could have had a quiet weekend to myself where I could hang out with my friends.

We spent the evening eating Mexican food and introducing Anna to Louis CK, and I spent the night by her apartment and we watched Dazed and Confused for probably the millionth time.

We walked in the park with Jonathan when he took his dog to the dog park this afternoon…  and Anna stopped to take a ride on the swings.

It certainly wasn’t the weekend I was expecting to have, but with good friends? It doesn’t really matter what you do. You can be doing anything and it’ll be a good time.

Being Blessed on a Crazy Week

It’s one of those weeks that’s so busy that the only time I have to blog is sitting on the subway with a huge bag of dildos under my feet.

You think I’m kidding…

The Blank Canvas Tour gang arrives tomorrow, and I figured it wise to clear out my apartment of all of my unmentionables seeing as kids finding the random stray dildo is probably a little more than what they probably want to explain…

See? I think ahead!

However, there may be rotten food in the fridge and a bag of rotting potatoes in the kitchen.

The Blank Canvas Tour has agreed to help me move some of my stuff seeing as I’m carless and they’re not. While I’m eternally grateful for the help, I also think that they might be mildly insane. They’re not just helping me move, they’re helping me move in New York City… that’s the sort of thing that you’re supposed to scream “Not it!” for.

But I like crazy.  And hopefully once some stuff is moved, I can be remarkably less crazy.

In other news, the floor in the bedroom we’re renovating currently looks like this:

James and Jesus (yes, we have a carpenter friend named Jesus) decided that it was a good idea to rip up the floor (which was definitely shitty) and discovered less shitty looking tile underneath (but with my luck it’s probably made of asbestos) and something like three varieties of mold. Yay!

And on top of all that, I’m supposed to be wrapping up a work project. But at least they’re buying me lunch today.

Who do you think might self-implode sometime this week? Any guesses?

*raises hand*

But you know what? I have the best friends ever, so that makes everything all right. I am truly blessed.

Sunday Confessions #16: Yoga, Twitter, iTunes, Non-Hangovers and Curly Hair

1. I went to yoga class this evening for the air conditioning. It was was so miserably hot and sticky in my apartment that when 5pm rolled around, I was super excited to go to the Hatha/Resorative Stretch class at 5:30. It was so nice to go somewhere cool to relax for an hour and a half! Also, on the positive side the teacher confirmed my suspicions of which muscle of mine seems to be the nasty offender causing most of my back pain… My iliotibial band is really tight, and she suggested some stretches that I might want to incorporate at home to help get it to relax.

2. I blocked my first real person on Twitter today. I got really tired of an ex-boyfriend of an ex-best friend replying to my tweets with snarky and condescending comments and I finally had enough and took out the ban hammer. What he said today wasn’t all that bad, but it brought back what an asshole he’d been a year ago when I was in between apartments and his way of being “supportive” was to berate my choice to live in New York City and how it would be so much more responsible of me to live elsewhere. I totally don’t need that shit, and if you have someone who does that to you… ban ‘em! It’s not worth it!

3. I am so frustrated that I can’t get iTunes music sharing to work between James’ PC and my Mac. I can see his library on my computer, but I can’t see my library on his which is obviously the more important thing because I want to listen to my music on his speakers and I don’t want to use Apple’s home sharing thing because we don’t actually use the iTunes store, just the player… and Google has been so NOT helpful in trying to resolve this issue.

4. I slept until 3pm today and felt like I had a hangover. Apparently, BlogHer really took it out of me. I seriously thought I was hungover when I woke up… but nope, I just drank too much free soda at the conference and not enough water which was really stupid in this weather. That said, thanks to the SodaStream demo booth, I’d really like one of those now.

5. Whenever it gets hot and humid, my hair gets these cute little curlies where it’s to short to pull back. See picture for evidence:
